Ideal Home Show, Earls Court

We were lucky enough to visit Earls Court in London, for the 2014 Ideal Home Show.  It’s certainly a show not to be missed and we’ve picked just some of the top highlights to show you:

On first impression, we were wowed by the exciting entrance design, complete with green carpeted stairs leading to the Earl’s Court entrance.  The entrance lobby was then a combined effort of interior ideas and gardening quirks, featuring over-sized fabric covered lampshades, sprouting from giant vases, giving an theatrical Alice-in-Wonderland feel!

Interior Inspiration:

Expecting something like a theatre-set, we were blown away by the real houses featured at the centre of the show.  Designed with the nod of approval from HRH Prince of Wales, each house was individual in styles, both exterior and interior.  They were full of up to date unusual ideas, powerful jolts of pattern and colour, and seamless design ideas throughout the spaces.  Certainly the highlight of the shows and the source of great inspiration for us!

The four room sets at the entrance hall also gave us some great interior ideas, with mixtures of copper, industrial design, classic sofa arrangements, wall paneling, natural materials and more.  Our two favourites included this ‘grey’ living room with touches of burnt orange and feature library style wallpaper, and this amazing bathroom set complete with feature copper bathtub, coloured grout with classic subway tiles and leaning industrial mirrors to replace bathroom cabinets…so chic.

The Sound-proof tree house was also quite a show piece for the exhibition, demonstrating the most up-to-date technology in a completely soundproof environment.  The structure of the tree house was something to marvel at, and the entire piece was certainly a crowd-pleaser, by Quiet Mark and John Lewis.

Not satisfied with interior design, The Ideal Home Show features zoned areas of the show for Cookery, Beauty and Garden Design.  We took a stroll through this year’s Young Garden Design of the Year sets to vote for our favourite.  Clear trends included the use of industrial materials used in quirky ways, such as piano fountains and rusting metal cages.  My personal favourite was the Old English Garden Pub, complete with a brewery and make-do-and-mend finishing touches, designed by Writtle College, Essex.

The Ideal Home Show is famous for showcasing new and innovative products, and this year was no exception.  Our top picks include the space-saving swivel bed-to-desk, a sits clever engineering allows all desk items to remain level so nothing tips as the desk turns into a bed.  What a great idea for a small space!

We also loved the magical bespoke miniature house creations…so perfectly formed for children to use, including a sweet shop, fire station and country house.  The attention to detail with every painted surface, and use of real materials to create the walls and roofs was very impressive, from Master Wishmakers.

Other great ideas included the following:

Mirror-Televisions – a great way to view your favourite shows, and to disguise a TV when its not in use. Available in various sizes and frame finishes;

Eco-friendly cardboard furniture (one of our recent Products of the Week on our Facebook and Twitter posts) – surprisingly durable and strong and unexpectedly inexpensive, from innovative design company Floots Ltd

Cubed storage boxes – this may seem like an ordinary idea, but each box is separate and unique in colour and depth, allowing you to create endless layouts and storage combinations to your hearts content.

Overall, an amazing show this year, and well worth the visit if you get the opportunity next year.  For something a little closer to home, The Ideal Home Show is now coming to Manchester in June 2014!

We are excited to announce that our designed room set will be a feature of the show, so book your tickets now and pay us a visit!
