Key Looks from the Experts

It’s a new year and time to take stock of your interiors. Traditionally, the new year encourages lots of people to sweep out the cobwebs, clear out the junk the previous year has helped hoard, and start making some positive changes. It’s why so many of us decide to redecorate as the new year and the prospect of spring roll in.

So if you’re considering a redesign in 2015 and want something fresh and modern, here are some of the key design trends you might wish to tap into this year.

1. Mixed Metals

Mixed metals

Top of the list at the Wall Street Journal for 2015 design trends is the concept of mixed metals, with London designer Kelly Hoppen quoted as saying teaming warm copper and rose with cool silvers, is a good look. According to New York’s Thom Filicia matching metal is all to “staged”. Mixing metals is “riskier” but “more stylish”.

2. Modern Materials

Lushome.com claims modern interior decorating materials are going to be a hit in 2015. The website states materials such as salvaged wood, stone and metal (again!), as well as exotic wood, colourful stained wood, majestic bronze, and marble will be popular over the next 12 months. Watch out for unique ways to innovatively and elegantly mix these materials to create a modern home that really stands out.

3. Colours

Farrow and Ball says this year’s colours of choice reflect a desire to create spaces that offer escapism from increasingly nomadic working lives which are always connected via smart devices. 2015’s key colours are pale in hue to promote relaxation and reflection, offering a sanctuary from stress in the home environment. They are Pink Ground, Light Blue, Breakfast Room Green and Tanner’s Brown.
