Why Your Bath Is More Important Than You Might Think

Bathing is something most of us do without a second thought as part of our cleansing routine – but did you know that having a bath boasts more benefits than simply taking away the grime of the day?

It’s fairly obvious that having a bath can be beneficial in terms of relaxing the body. In fact, baths have numerous other advantages for body and mind. Research shows that they can actually help with medical disorders, skin conditions such as eczema, and enhance your immune system.

According to research by the New England Journal of Medicine, diabetics who spent 30 minutes in a hot tub reduced blood sugar levels by 13 per cent, by improving blood flow and enabling the body to better use insulin. Other studies have shown that just a 10 minute warm bath can assist in improving cardiovascular health in the elderly, enabling them to reduce pain and cope with doing exercise better.

Your bath is important – as is your bathroom – and it’s about more than functionality. This space can be used to create a haven, away from the rest of the world, where you can focus on health, wellbeing and cleanliness in peace.

So turn on the taps, add your favourite scent or soak and close your eyes for a 20 minutes of peace and quiet (if you have kids, ensure they are well ensconced in an activity with your other half and lock the door!) for a wealth of health benefits.
