Your Checklist For An Organised Home Between Christmas And New Year

The New Year is almost upon us and it’s time to start saying goodbye to 2015 and all that it has brought with it. The period between Christmas and New Year can be a strange one. You might be busy visiting family and friends, you might be working sporadically in between bank holidays, or you might find yourself at a bit of a loose end – all the chaos of Christmas is over and you’re facing a few days of turkey curry and uwrapped pressies.

If you’re wondering how best to spend your time before the onslaught of January means getting back to “normality”, see if our checklist can help you use this time wisely.

  1. Invest in storage solutions

If you have children the post-Christmas period will be full of toys and you’ll likely be looking for a space to store them. Invest in some decent storage before all the tiny bits of Lego disappear under the sofa never to be seen again.

2. Say goodbye to things you no longer need

Finally got a replacement for that ancient hairdryer in the Boxing Day sale, or received a new matching set of mugs from mum? Now is high time to say out with the old and in with the new. Chuck all those chipped mismatching mugs you’ve been using since University and put your matching set in pride of place.

3. Recycle all that wrapping

If your home is still drowning under swathes of festive packaging it’s time to bag it, bin it or put it away for next year. Make sure the paper and boxes go in the appropriate recycling bins, and don’t feel compelled to keep all the boxes for all the presents you received – they just take up necessary space so preserve only what is needed. If you have lots of Christmas gift bags in good condition, put them away for next year and save yourself some cash.
