3 Wow Factor Fireplaces

It’s that time of the year again. “The weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful,” is a lyric that really rings true as Christmas and the cold weather approach. There is, quite simply, nothing more appealing than staying inside and cuddling up in front of roaring flames, with your loved ones, with a great book and glass of wine, or even some Saturday night television.

Fireplaces traditionally form the central focus of a room; quite simply because they were placed in the middle to offer maximum and even heating – but modern homes may be built differently and even have no true chimney. Here we look at three different fireplaces and how they work within the room.

  1. Grand and stately

Nothing makes an impact quite like this grey stone fireplace which frankly exudes history and character in this living room. This stunning fireplace has been bookended by large stone planters which add to the room’s striking main feature. The fire itself is coal-blackened and beautiful, retaining much of the heritage of this traditional property.

2. Woodpile style

This is another traditional fireplace, but this one adds warmth and comfort to the room even when isn’t aflame, with a wooden surround and logpile either side. The black fire and hearthstone add a strong contrast to the white walls. There is a homeliness to this room.

3. Modern flames

This modern electric fire brings a warm glow to the dining room in this modern room. The benefit of an electric or gas fire is its ease of use – no need to source wood or stoke the flames – just a simple flick of the switch and you’re ablaze.
